Plantation’s tax rate
The city’s millage rates page lists its operating rate year by year:
| City fiscal year | City operating rate (mills) | Taxable value |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 5.7000 | $14.78 billion |
| 2025 | 5.8000 | $12.82 billion |
| 2024 | 5.8000 | $14.01 billion |
| 2023 | 5.8000 | $11.68 billion |
| 2022 | 5.8000 | $10.64 billion |
One mill is $1 of tax for every $1,000 of taxable value, so 5.7 mills is $570 for every $100,000 of taxable value. The City Council set the rate for fiscal year 2027 at its September budget hearings, and that is the city rate on the bill mailed Nov. 1. Your TRIM notice, mailed each August, lists the proposed rate of every taxing authority and the hearing dates.
That is only the city’s share. Broward County, Broward County Public Schools, the South Florida Water Management District, the hospital district and others add their own rates.
The whole bill
The Property Appraiser’s millage table lists the combined rate of every taxing authority for each city. Plantation has one millage code, 2212.
| Plantation total millage | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Code 2212 | 20.3679 | 20.2616 | 20.5055 | 20.2675 | 20.0675 |
The 2025 total was the lowest of the five years shown.
Plantation and its neighbors, 2025
Plantation sits in the middle of its neighbors: below Sunrise, Tamarac, Lauderhill and Lauderdale Lakes, and above Davie, Cooper City and Fort Lauderdale. Davie and Fort Lauderdale each have more than one millage code; the chart shows the first code the Property Appraiser lists for each.
Homestead exemption
If you own your home and it is your permanent residence on Jan. 1, you can claim a homestead exemption through the Property Appraiser. Florida’s Save Our Homes amendment then caps the yearly increase in a homestead’s assessed value.
- 2027 exemption: the timely filing deadline is March 1, 2027.
- File online with the Property Appraiser.
Buying a home? A sale resets the assessed value to full market value, so do not assume your taxes will match the seller’s. The Property Appraiser has a tax estimator.
How to appeal
The Value Adjustment Board hears disputes over your property’s value, exemptions or classification. It cannot change tax rates; for that, go to the budget hearings listed on your TRIM notice.
- Start with the Property Appraiser. A deputy appraiser will go over how your value was set; contact the office.
- If you still disagree, file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board by the deadline printed on your TRIM notice. The deadline for 2026 value appeals has passed; ask the board about “good cause” late filing.
What this means for you
