Where it is

The city’s Mirror Lake Area Neighborhood Plan Report, approved by the City Council on Sept. 21, 2005, places the area east of University Drive, north of the C-12 Canal and up to the city limit just north of Sunrise Boulevard. It was prepared with Mirror Lake Estates, Marcano Estates, Alpine Woods, Plantation Sunrise Heights, Apple Creek, Del Oro, Omega Condominiums, Omega Villas, Plantation Forest, Plantation Meadows, Village Square Condos and Villas of Plantation. In the Property Appraiser’s neighborhood layer, Marcano Estates sits just west of University Drive; Mirror Lake Estates and Plantation Sunrise Heights are east of it, reaching up to Sunrise Boulevard.

Of the area’s street addresses, 59% are in ZIP code 33313 and 41% in 33322.

History. The plan says builder Howard Miller and H. Miller & Sons developed much of the area in the 1960s and 1970s, and that Mirror Lake Elementary was completed in 1969. Marcano Estates began in the late 1970s; its first developer went bankrupt soon after, and the subdivision was finished later. In 2005 the plan counted about 6,400 residents in about 2,500 households across its full 680 acres.
