Plantation's jobless rate fell to 3.8% in September from 4.1% in August, BLS figures show, tying its 2026 low. Broward County fell to 4.1%.
Plantation’s unemployment rate fell to 3.8% in September, down from 4.1% in August. That ties March for the city’s lowest monthly rate this year.
The figures come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ local area unemployment data for Plantation. The September numbers are preliminary and can be revised next month.
About 2,118 Plantation residents were out of work and looking for a job in September. That is 185 fewer than in August. The number of residents with jobs rose by 405, to 53,605.
Flat over the year
Plantation’s rate was also 3.8% in September 2025, so the year-over-year change is zero. The count of unemployed residents is almost the same, 2,124 a year ago against 2,118 now.
The workforce is smaller, though. The BLS series show:
| Measure | September 2026 | August 2026 | September 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unemployment rate | 3.8% | 4.1% | 3.8% |
| Unemployed | 2,118 | 2,303 | 2,124 |
| Employed | 53,605 | 53,200 | 53,987 |
| Labor force | 55,723 | 55,503 | 56,111 |
Employment is down 382 from September 2025, and the labor force is down 388. The labor force counts residents who have a job or are looking for one.
This year the city’s rate peaked at 4.4%, in January and again in June. The BLS has no October 2025 figure: its page marks that month “data unavailable due to the 2025 lapse in appropriations.”

What it means for you
- The rate measures where people live, not where they work. A Plantation resident who commutes to Fort Lauderdale or Miami counts here. So the figure says more about Plantation households than about businesses in the city.
- These are not seasonally adjusted. Florida rates move with the seasons, so compare September with September. On that test, Plantation is level with a year ago.
- Looking for work? CareerSource Broward, the county’s workforce board, offers job search help and resume and interview workshops. It also lists training scholarships of up to $12,000 for eligible Broward residents.
