Where it is
The city’s Plantation Isles/Harbor Area Neighborhood Plan Report, approved by the City Council in April 2003, puts the area at about 456 acres west of Florida’s Turnpike, east of the East Holloway Canal, north of the New River Canal and south of Peters Road. It was prepared with Plantation Isles, Plantation Harbor, Plantation Landings, Waterway Estates and Isla Del Sol. The Broward County Property Appraiser’s neighborhood layer maps Plantation Isles and Plantation Harbour, as it spells it, about 390 acres together; this page joins them. I-595 runs along the far side of the New River Canal.
All of the area’s street addresses are in ZIP code 33317.
History. The plan says the land was a cow pasture for the Peters Farm, used for grazing cattle and growing sorghum for feed. Ground was broken on the first phase of Plantation Isles in the late 1950s, for a proposed 700-lot waterfront subdivision sold by Ollie L. Sorsdahl’s Plantation Isles, Inc., with later phases through the 1960s and 1970s. South Plantation High was completed in 1970 and Seminole Middle in 1971, and Plantation Harbor was developed in the 1980s.
